🇰🇪 Kenya – Improved General Demand

The Mombasa auction recorded the smallest offering of the year with 121,000 packages (down from 125,000), yet market absorption improved, with only 22% unsold. The all-auction average rose to $2.00/kg, a +5¢ increase.

  • BP1s (KTDA EoR & WoR): Continued strong demand, especially for flavoury and quality types. Below best BP1s sold at irregularly firm to dearer levels. Reprints remained largely neglected.

  • PF1s: Pakistan led strong demand. EoR PF1s fetched firm to dearer prices due to limited offerings. WoR PF1s with blacker leaves saw irregularly dearer sales.

  • Dust (PD/D1): Strong demand continued across East and West of Rift, selling at firm to dearer rates, especially for Egypt-types.

  • Key Buyers: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Egypt, UK; selective interest from CIS, Russia, South Sudan. North Sudan remained largely absent.

📉 Outlook:Supply is tightening, with fresh tea availability declining. Demand is holding firm, especially from Pakistan and Afghanistan, but the flow of unsold reprints and Sudan’s absence continue to weigh on market sentiment.

🌦 Weather Update – East & West Rift

  • Rainfall: Regular showers with cloudy mornings in East Rift and sunny intervals followed by afternoon showers in the West.

  • Temperatures: Day and night temps declined.

  • Crop Intake: Slight increase in harvest volumes.

🌍 Other African Origins

  • 🇺🇬 Uganda: Improved demand; prices irregularly firm to dearer. Leaf quality mixed; crop levels stable.

  • 🇹🇿 Tanzania: Limited lots, all sold at dearer rates.

  • 🇷🇼 Rwanda: Steady interest and seasonal peak in quality.

  • 🇧🇮 Burundi: Increased availability but no sales due to poor quality and producer limits.

  • 🇲🇼 Malawi: BP1s slightly dearer, other grades steady to easier. Crop intake remains low.

🌏 Asia – Strong Demand in Sri Lanka, Mixed in India & Indonesia

🇱🇰 Sri Lanka – Bullish Market Continues

  • South India:

    • Dust CTC: Fair demand, irregular pricing.

  • North India:

    • Orthodox: Strong demand; smaller brokens & GFOP saw premium interest.

    • CTC Leaf: Good medium Assam teas steady; fannings improved.

    • Dust: Good demand; some outlots in best/good Assam teas.

🇮🇩 Indonesia – Reduced Demand

  • Auction Volume: 4,120 packages; 29% remained unsold.
