🇰🇪 Kenya – Steady Demand with Reduced Supply
The Mombasa auction saw good general demand with 165,000 packages offered—down from 186,000 the week prior. Auction absorption improved, with only 39% unsold compared to 43% last week. Average prices rose by 5 USC to USD 1.98/kg.
BP1s: Flavory East of Rift teas held firm; below-best grades lost 2–3 USC. West of Rift BP1s met selective demand. Mediums and plain BP1s sold firm to dearer.
PF1s: East of Rift qualities sold steadily. West of Rift blacker types gained irregularly. Medium and plainer PF1s saw improved demand at steady to firm rates.
Dust Grades: Best PDs and D1s held firm; plainer PD/D1s showed irregularly improved demand, especially from Egypt.
Key buyers: Pakistan and Egypt led activity, with Iran, Yemen, the UK, and Russia also active. Sudan remained absent, and reprints continue to affect future supply balance.
Weather: Light rains and cooler temperatures reduced crop harvests across both East and West Rift regions.
Outlook: Demand is expected to strengthen further as fresh availability declines, with Pakistan Bazaar anticipated to enter the market soon.
🇲🇼 Malawi – Strong Market Continues
Continued very good demand at firm to dearer levels. Offgrades, PDs, and D1s all traded higher. Weather remains cool with some isolated showers; crop intakes are seasonally low but quality remains good.
🌍 Other African Origins
Uganda: Improved but irregular demand. Better teas attracted competition; quality remains mixed.
Rwanda: BP1 demand dropped. Quality peaking seasonally, but dry weather may reduce availability.
Tanzania: Limited offerings. Steady demand but irregular pricing.
Burundi: Higher availability but low demand due to poor quality and pricing caps.
🇱🇰 Sri Lanka – Fair Demand Amid Complex Trends
Colombo auction offered 5.5M kg. High-grown Rotovane teas were irregular, while orthodox leafy grades remained stable.
Ex-Estate: Select best BOPs gained USC 15; Nuwara Eliya BOP/BOPF surged USC 60. Seasonal Uva teas up by USC 20–40.
Low Grown: OP1s eased USC 20; others mixed. Small leaf and premium grades remained firm, with select FFs gaining.
Dust: Secondary and high-grown dusts improved.
🇮🇳 India – Good Demand with Mixed Trends
North India: Strong Orthodox demand; leaf CTC sold well but irregular. Dust grades easier.
South India: Fair demand for both CTC and Orthodox leaf/dust. High-grown grades sold irregularly.Note: India's tea exports slightly declined year-on-year. North Indian production rose, but South Indian volumes fell sharply.
🇮🇩 Indonesia – Slow Export Demand, Local Buyers Dominate
Around 4,700 packages were on offer, with 19% remaining unsold. CTC fannings in Sumatra and Java sold firm to dearer. Dry weather continued across tea regions despite occasional rains in Jakarta. Local players led buying activity.
🇻🇳 Vietnam – Stable Pricing Despite Heat Stress
The tea crop is mid-season, with prices stable year-on-year. Suppliers continue to manage post-Storm Wipha recovery. Northern Vietnam is experiencing a record-breaking heatwave, which may impact future availability.
